Stand Up Paddle Surfing Intro An easy first step into SUP. SUP is a great way to stay in shape even without waves, it can be used for a relaxing cruise, it also doubles up as a Core Fitness exercise using your core stomach muscles, it is superb for fitness as you use every part of your body. The latest water sport to hit the UK it is easy to learn, there is no better place to try it out then in Torbay. Learn board handling skills on flat water , different paddling techniques, correct stance, basic and fast turning, maybe venture into surf depending on ability and conditions. All equipment supplied (including wet suit, boots and buoyancy aid). An ability to swim 50m is essential. Advanced booking required. SUP does require a basic fitness level. Celebrating 37 years, husband and wife team, Andre' and Dulce started out back in '78 with the shop then known as The Skate Surf Centre, and have always been at the forefront of new sports in this country such as surfing, skateboarding, windsurfing, powerkiting, kitebuggying, kitesurfing and stand up paddleboarding. The business has evolved over the years from the manufacture of surfboards, a very successful skateboard team which competed all over the UK, the RYA recognized Torquay Windsurfing School which taught a great many over the course of 25 + years, and the shop Torquay Wind Surf Centre. Andre' and Dulce were also founder members of the Windglider Class Association in the UK the first Windsurfing class to achieve Olympic status back in 1984, and both competed nationally and internationally, having won many competitions with brother Mark, the Shorland trio, Dulce became National Heineken Ladies champion in 1980. In 1999 Andre' and Dulce became involved in Kitesurfing and Kitebuggying. Andre' was for a time the Flying Doctor, Powerkite's Magazine Dr Kite. Andre' ran the Torquay Windsurfing School for many years (1978-1999) and then the Torquay Kitesurfing and Kitebuggying school from (1999-2015), one of the first Kitesurfing schools in the country, if not the first. The School now offers courses in Stand Up Paddle (SUP) as well as Powerkiting and Kitebuggying. Check out the courses page.
