Captain Dave with GetMyBoat demonstrates how to tie off your boat in a public marina.
Leave a Tail on the Cleat Hitch
When using a cleat hitch, be sure to leave enough tail so that it can be eased out of the slip. Do not tie the boat off on a piling or run it through the base of the cleat. If tied off improperly, the dock crew will not be able to release the line easily.
Properly Tie Your Lines
The boat in the video is tied to the cleat that is farthest away from the dock and the lines are crossed to allow for boat movement as the tide ebbs and flows after Hurrican Sandy.
