These are unprecedented times, which will continue to change daily going into 2021. We want to provide our community with as much guidance as possible going forward, while also following the advice of the advisories from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to stay on top of their safety measures and travel requirements, both domestically and internationally.
We ask that you do the same, and always follow the guidance of your federal, state, and local public health officials to stay safe and healthy.
Our approach to cancellations
On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of coronavirus, known as COVID-19, to be a global pandemic. In response, we took immediate action to help protect our community and provide peace of mind to both our owners/operators and our renters. We did this by working with them to reschedule reservations, we asked all owner/operators for compassion and understanding, and many provided refunds when possible.
We will not be issuing refunds for renter-cancelled bookings if the cancellation is within the owner’s cancellation policy window. Our booking fees are also non-refundable, regardless of when the cancellation is made.
COVID-19 continues to require everyone's attention, we recognize the impact this has on everyone, not just our travel plans but health and safety overall.
We are committed to great customer service and providing world-class customer experiences overall. We have asked all boat owners and operators to consider COVID-19 within their respective cancellation policies.
Before booking your reservation, we suggest that you not only ask the boat owner/operator what their COVID-19 Cancellation policy is, but also research how COVID-19 restrictions could affect your travel plans.
Can I still rent a boat with GetMyBoat?
Yes. Boating is a great activity to enjoy the outdoors and stay safe with a small group out on the water, away from the crowds. Boats are environments that are easy to clean and sanitize, and you can enjoy boating on a staycation or while traveling. We encourage all renters to keep an eye on requirements being issued by local authorities to ensure you’re complying with any changes.
It’s our goal to continue to facilitate as many boat trips as possible, safely.
How are boats cleaned?
Our community of top-rated boat owners and captains are dedicated to providing clean boats and watercrafts. We advise that they wipe down all hard surfaces with these cleaners, paying special attention to surfaces that are frequently touched such as seats, steering wheels, tables, counters and door handles.
We’ve provided some resources and information on extra cleaning and COVID-19 precautions here. As a renter, you are also welcome to bring your own cleaning supplies and disinfectants.
What do I do if I need to cancel my boat rental reservation?
GetMyBoat’s service fee is always non-refundable, regardless of when the cancellation is made.
Beyond this, each listing on GetMyBoat has a unique cancellation policy set by the listing owner.
When you accept an owner's offer, you are also agreeing to the cancellation policy. If something arises and you need to cancel before your trip is due to begin, please review the owner's cancellation policy so you know what to expect. In some cases, an owner may offer a full refund, a partial refund, or no refund.
Before booking a planned vacation or last-minute getaway, please examine the owner’s cancellation policy thoroughly and research how COVID-19 may be affecting your plans.

What are the benefits of boating during this time?
A unique benefit of road travel is that you choose where you go, including destinations and campsites that are full of fresh air and nature, away from groups of people, and away from any areas of health concern. Your renter may reach out for helpful suggestions of great campgrounds in your area that are less crowded and would make for an amazing experience, so feel free to share any of your local advice!
What do I do if a renter needs to cancel their boat trip?
All owner cancellation policies will be upheld. We understand that as an owner, you incur costs to secure the requested date for your boat, as well as provisions and other expenses. GetMyBoat owners can set their own cancellation policies and we will abide by them.
GetMyBoat’s booking fees are always non-refundable, regardless of when the cancellation is made.
Renters are fully subject to your regular individual cancellation policies if they choose to cancel. You can update your personal cancellation policy by editing it on your boat listings.
Access your calendar here to make changes to your reservations.
Are there extra cleaning measures I can take to further protect my renters?
We know our community of owners is dedicated to providing clean boats and safe water experiences. We ask that you continue to clean your boats with disinfectant and antibacterial/antiviral cleaner before and after each rental to help prevent the spread of germs.
Wiping down all surfaces with disinfectants, paying special attention to areas renters touch often such as seats, steering wheels, tables, counters and door handles is the best practice. More information about cleaning can be found here.
What do I do if one of my renters gets sick?
If one of your renters gets sick, please make sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect your boat, and notify all your crew members if they were working on that boat rental/charter.
Please contact us if you need any further assistance.
